Unlike traditional all-steel bearings, its outer ring and integrated cage/rolling elements are made from igus proprietary high-performance polymers(e.g.,iglidur®X).This material is self-lubricating,allowing for long-term operation without grease, and can withstand corrosion from many acids, alkalis, and solvents. The bearing design can accommodate a certain amount of dust and particles, reducing the risk of seizing. It operates quietly and is lightweight. The inner ring uses stainless steel(e.g.,304)to provide a stable mounting interface and strength. Not suitable for very high loads or high-temperature applications.

An example is a product from the igubal®spherical plain bearing range with a similar structure,or from the dry-running deep groove ball bearing series. The outer ring and rolling elements are injection-molded from iglidur®X material, based on POM(polyoxymethylene)blended with special solid lubricants. The inner ring material is AISI 304 stainless steel. The overall bearing design has larger internal clearance to compensate for the different thermal expansion of plastic versus metal.Rated data is based on tests of the specific material at 20°C;actual performance varies with temperature and medium.

Used in applications with chemical splashes, frequent washdowns(e.g.,CIP/SIP),dusty conditions,or where absolute freedom from oil contamination is required.Examples include:rollers on food and beverage processing conveyor lines, containment sleeves in chemical pumps, guide rod supports in packaging machinery, valve stems in water treatment plants, and wet areas of agricultural machinery. It addresses the problem of rapid failure of traditional bearings in these environments due to lubricant washout or corrosion.
